AUDIOLOGISTS & ENTs
When your child has been identified at school or thru the newborn hearing screening as having a possible hearing loss, you will be refered to an Audiologist and/or to an ENT (Otolaryngoligist). The Audiologist is the professional who will test your child's hearing in a sound booth. In Texas they are required to be licensed and have their PhD in Audiology. The ENT is an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. This doctor will check your child for causes of hearing loss.

If your baby was refered thru the newborn screening be sure to follow up with a pediatric audiologist within the first month for a follow-up evaluation!

AUDIOGRAM
The Audiologist will report his/her findings on an Audiogram. This is a chart of the sounds your child can hear. It is based on frequency (low or high pitch sounds) and decibels (soft or loud sounds).
Different types of testing can be done as a part of the child's hearing evaluation. Texas Connect's Topic Card 1 discusses these tests.
