Jon & Shelly Bergeron - Helping Your Kids Thrive!

Jon and Shelly met at Taylor University in Upland, IN and were married 23 years ago.  After earning a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and completing a one-year postdoctoral training in Child and Adolescent Psychology, Jon and Shelly sensed a call to become foster parents. One of their first foster children (whom they later adopted) was profoundly Deaf.  Jon and Shelly set about learning American Sign Language (ASL), and became an active part in the local Deaf community.  Shelly became a certified interpreter and used those skills as a substitute interpreter in the schools and church services each weekend. In May of 2010 they received a second calling to adopt; this time internationally, and in record time (4.5 months) adopted a soon-to-be 14 year-old Deaf boy from China.

In May of 2012, Jon closed his 10-year practice as a psychologist with Scott & White Clinic in College Station, Texas and joined Hope for Orphans speaking, training and developing resources for foster and adoptive families and churches serving those families. Jon also served for many years on the board of the local CASA organization while Shelly was a CASA volunteer. Jon and Shelly helped to start and lead an orphan care ministry at their local church in College Station that they attended for 13 years. In 2014, The Bergerons moved to Austin, Texas where their boys attend Texas School for the Deaf.  Jon sees private practice clients at Austin Stone Counseling Center and continues to do speaking and training.  Shelly works at Texas School for the Deaf’s Educational Resource Center On Deafness as a Family Involvement Specialist
